me and her designs | University of Montana Media Arts | Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem

adele louise wilson-hamaker... you can call me plain old adele (uh-del).
i just completed my mfa in media arts at the university of montana in missoula, montana. i've just moved back to eugene, oregon, and have just finished writing a feature as well as doing web design work (you can check out my business website, by following the link below).
now, some very mean and nasty people who don't deserve to be my friends might say i never shut up. my spin on it is that I have a lot to say -- that's why I tell stories... I'm trying to make sense out of my past, present, my world.
personal note:
i've got a kid, wife, two dogs (all with bad breath -- well, not my wife) and two cats. Phew.

i graduated summa cum laude from western oregon state college with my BA in History.... i chose history as, well, I liked it, a lot, and because it seemed sensible. i had an academic scholarship, and my parent's were helping me out with living expenses, and I thought I should take "serious" classes. so I didn't take any art or photography (other than art history, a requirement). after I graduated, i moved to eugene, oregon in order to pursue a graduate degree in women's studies at the university of oregon -- when I got there, this didn't seem right. i quickly got a job and started taking photography and film classes at lane community college and had a blast. i wanted to find a way to meld writing (which I love) and images -- but not necessarily in a traditional, linear way. it was the early 90's, and i grew frustrated with using still pictures and then scratching text over or alongside it. in 1997 i caught wind of this "new" program, after effects -- and immediately i knew that i had stumbled upon the right stuff. i was accepted at the university of montana in their media arts program, and spent the past three years discovering, exploring, and pushing into this new world of motion graphics and storytelling.

i graduated summa cum laude with my BA in history from western oregon state college. i also was a member of phi kappa gamma (no, it's not a sorority, it's an academic thing). i was chosen to work with the late Carroll O'Connor (best known for his role as archie bunker). i assisted him in "writing the story", a class he taught at the university of montana. This was an amazing experience - he was a great guy. He was an amateur photographer, and one afternoon we hung out, playing with his cameras and taking pictures of each other (it sounds much weirder than it actually was...). All I kept thinking was, man, I'm hanging out with a 70's TV icon, a guy who changed television, in missoula, montana, and we're sitting here taking pictures and talking about Monica Lewinski... what else?... while at I was awarded the bertha morton scholarship. I just completed my mfa at the university of montana. and most importantly, I received an oscar (the grouch) award from my partner just last night when I thought it was a good idea to put artichoke leaves down the garbage disposal...

is an award-winning short movie. To know all the juicy details about it, you can use the link at the bottom of this page to go to the donor website. otherwise, here are some tidbits about it: donor was part of my thesis project. what's here on the net is a semi-quasi trailer... actually, it's really a three minute version of a thirty minute short movie. the whole deal has been shown at several festivals. i wrote, produced, co-directed (with my friend and colleague eve whitaker), and edited it. the music is by - they're great! you can check them out at www.raniarbo.com. the movie features kate czajkowski, my pseudo brother-in-law rob helms, and kari staggs.
